LUMINIS began as a project in 2005 when vocalist, Tara, decided it was time to put her voice to use. She'd been singing for many years in choirs, contests, and karaoke nights. But she wanted to form a band with the main purpose of performing live. At the time, being an avid Evanescence fan, Tara attempted to put together an Evanescence cover/tribute band. The arduous task of finding local instrumentalist into the same idea proved to be almost impossible. After many auditions and revolving members, she was able to find a few solid musicians and they hit the rehearsal studio. However, over time, it became obvious that without a keyboardist, there would be great hurdles to overcome. Unfortunately, the constant quest for a keyboard player caused Luminis to disband in late 2007.
Only a few months later, Tara was determined to reform Luminis, but this time as a female fronted gothic-symphonic metal tribute band incorporating music from bands such as Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Leaves' Eyes and more. She set out to search for members again and Luminis was reborn.
LUMINIS is now focusing on writing original material in the vein of the bands they have tributed. Their goal is to incorporate all influences from each member while keeping the symphonic, orchestral, operatic and heavy metal sounds they acquired while studying such great epic music!
